In researching Gian prior to writing this review, I was astounded to discover how young this wonderful player is!  Currently pursuing a doctoral degree in education at the Teachers College of Columbia University in NY, Gian both plays and composes with the maturity, harmonic sensibility & Intelligence of someone twice his age.  This disc was one of those truly precious discoveries that don't come along very often.  While I'd imagine that these tunes are all deceptively difficult to play, the music sounds effortless.  The tone of every instrument, the mix and the dynamics with which these guys play make this recording what could be considered a new standard of excellence for my ears.

There is intensity without being abrasive, metronomic complexity without ever coming across as hard to listen to (or mathematical) and both harmonic sophistication and technical mastery without ever sounding like "music for musicians only".  A Jazz release to be proud of!  Check it out...
